Let Us Eat Cake

Apr 1, 2021

In this week’s episode Hannah and Ali talk all things ob*sity. They have the honor of having Dr. Nathasha Larmie from @fatdoctorUK join them for this dynamic episode to answer all your questions about ob*sity and chronic disease. Dr. Larmie uses her personal story to illustrate the impact of weight cycling and the pressures health care providers and patients feel when they are told their weight or health condition is a personal problem to fix. As a Health At Every Size aligned and weight-inclusive GP with over 20 years of medical experience, there was no better guest to help Hannah and Ali cut through the B.S. regarding ob*sity, weight stigma, anti-fat bias and chronic disease. Isn’t ob*sity a significant risk for several common and serious conditions like heart disease, diabetes and osteoarthritis? Why do you censor the word ob*sity? Doesn’t classifying ob*sity as a disease enable more people to get help, resources and support so they can be healthier? Does weight-inclusive care protect people’s emotional health, but worsen their physical health? What is “disease of adipose tissue dysfunction” and does body fat cause disease? This episode had Hannah and Ali fist pumping and doing a little dance as Dr. Larmie challenges weight-focused care and drops truth bomb after truth bomb. Trust us, this is an episode you must listen to - it’s the doctor’s order!
